The Wendigo
Materials
Charred pinewood, Spanish moss, ash infused jute twine, copper wire, turkey bone, copper wire
Measurements
7 inches tall while seated, 12.5 inches tall with legs fully extended, 4.5 inches wide.
Modeled after the evil, man-eating spirit described in Algonquian folklore, this particularly striking monster is a terrible melding of beast and man. Carved from wildfire charred wood harvested from Medicine Bow National Forest in Wyoming, the enigmatic Wendigo displays many small, intricate details discovered by close inspection. The Wendigo's head turns side-to-side and his joints are loosely articulated with jute twine allowing him to be posed. The head, carved to imitate a deer skull, represents my first time carving a realistic animal skull.
